EVERY CHILD DESERVES A LITTLE CHRISTMAS

November 2023 | 0 comments

November 2023

Thanks to the Kingman Marine Corps League, Dean W. Reiter Detachment, and its local partners, children in Northern Mohave County who need that little Christmas will be getting some again this year.
The Toys for Tots program is over 75 years old and operated by the United States Marine Corps. The Marine Corps directs the program through the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and the Marine Toys For Tots Foundation. Toys for Tots is a registered 501(c)3. In Northern Mohave County the Dean W. Reiter Detachment #887 of the Marine Corps League has been operating the TFT program for over 15 years and will continue this program again in 2023.
The Mohave North Campaign covers the areas of Kingman, Golden Valley, Yucca, Hwy 93 south to Wikieup, Hwy 93 North to Dolan Springs, Meadview and White Hills and east on old 66 out to Truxton. In 2022 we distributed 5,280 toys to a total of 1,664 children.
The greater Lake Havasu City area is covered by Mohave South, which can be reached at 928-566-4741 or by emailing: lake.havasu.city.az@toysfortots.org. The river communities in the greater Bullhead City area is covered by Firefighters Holiday Toy Drive.
Every year there appears to be confusion on who and how to apply for toys. We try our best to limit the distribution of toys to families in need. The parents of the child or a Legal Guardian may apply for the toys. No Grandparents unless you have legal custody of the child. See posted guidelines. Our ages start at newborn to 15 years. You must register for toys online, at toysfortots.org. You will see a button that says “REQUEST A TOY.” Click this button and follow the instructions and local rules. At this time our toy house location is pending. The current plan is that toys can be picked up December 15-16-17 (Fri-Sat-Sun) as we do not deliver. We will make notifications by email or text, please make sure that your phone account is up to date.
Toy collection boxes will be going out the first week of November and we will be picking up the boxes on December 11 & 12. Donated toys must be new and unwrapped. Please, no food or clothing. If you check around the community you will find several religious organizations that collect food and clothing for the holidays.

NPS phases out ‘Trailer Village’ at Cottonwood Cove

The National Park Service (NPS) has set into motion a plan that will see the gradual phasing out of a longstanding trailer park on the shores of Lake Mohave. The Trailer Village at Cottonwood Cove, which has been a fixture in the area since the early 1970s, is set to be completely phased out by 2043. The decision was made as part of a new lease agreement between the NPS and Lake Mead Mohave Adventures— a company that oversees the majority of commercial operations within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
