Chloride’s All Town Yard Sale set for May 14 features high noon ‘gunfight’

CHLORIDE – The friendly residents of this historic 1860’s silver mining camp are filling their yards with treasures for the May 14 All Town Yard Sale, which begins at 8 a.m., while the popular Chloride Bake Sale starts at 9 a.m.
The All Town Yard Sale is a wonderful way for families to pic-nic and learn about what is believed to be Arizona’s oldest inhabited precious metals mining town whose beginnings date back to Civil War. This semi-annual event attracts hundreds of visitors who explore this historic town of the Old West where they have the opportunity to purchase an assortment of antiques, collectibles and other unique items from the yards of the Chloride’s friendly residents. A must first stop would be the Bake Sale at the corner of Tennessee and Second Street. Not only will there be a variety of tasty pastries and cookies, but visitors can pick up an official map of all the yard sales at the Mineshaft Market for a map.
An ever-popular event at “High Noon” is Chloride’s signature gunfight reenactments by the High Desert Drifters gunfight troupe performs in Cyanide Springs, just east of the county park. While in Cyanide Springs, visitors are urged to stop by the Chloride Historical Society’s Jim Fritz Museum and the Silver Belle Playhouse next door. Both are full of memorabilia from Chloride’s glory days. Also there are numerous retail shops in Cyanide Springs and throughout Chloride featuring handmade jewelry, assorted antiques, local ore, wooden crafts, western art, and other collectibles. When hunger hits, the park on Second Street has picnic facilities or across the street is Yesterday’s Steakhouse and Saloon, which is open all day.
History buffs would probably enjoy a stop at the old jail on Merrimac Avenue, and the old train station right around the corner. Just a mile east of town are the world-famous Roy Purcell Murals, and petroglyphs left by the Hualapai Indians who once lived on this land. Check with the Mineshaft Market for road conditions to the murals.
