Bullhead City Animal Shelter Offers Great Selection of Dogs for Adoption

September 2024

BULLHEAD CITY, AZ., September 05, 2024—Staff at the Bullhead City Animal Shelter are working to find forever homes for the 34 dogs currently housed there.

“We have more dogs than the building is designed to hold,” said Bullhead City Animal Shelter Manager Alyson Harms. “The bright side is if you’re looking for a specific companion, we’ve got a lot to choose from. The downside is they all need homes.”

Best Friends Animal Society has stepped up to help, providing a grant to the City to cover the cost of adoptions for 30 dogs.

“We’re so grateful to Best Friends Animal Society,” said Harms. “Since their contribution, we’ve already helped to unite two dogs with new families this morning free of charge.”

The next 28 dogs adopted from the Bullhead City Animal Shelter will be completely free to their new family.

The shelter will also open outside normal business hours on Saturday, September 21 and 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to give the animals more opportunities to be adopted.

The Bullhead City Animal Shelter is located at 2270 Trane Rd in Bullhead City, Arizona. Its standard public viewing hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 12 to 5:30 p.m. While the shelter is open Monday-Friday, it’s closed for public visitation on Tuesdays and Thursdays to reduce animal stress. That shouldn’t deter interested pet owners, however.

“All our animals that are available for adoption can be viewed online at AdoptAPet.com,” Harms said. “Please look at our pets online and call us with your questions. Our friendly staff are ready to help you through the entire process of finding a good fit for your home.”

The shelter can be reached at 928-763-6000, or more information can be obtained by visiting the City’s website at bullheadcity.com/shelter.

“Those interested in helping pets find forever homes but aren’t able to adopt themselves have options,” Harms said. “We accept all kinds of donations, need more volunteers and love sponsors.”

Donations of blankets, toys, and other items can be dropped off at the shelter during normal business hours. Prospective volunteers are encouraged to fill out an application online at bullheadcity.com/jobs. Anyone interested in sponsoring the adoption of pets at the shelter is encouraged to contact Jackie Jensen, Bullhead City Sponsorship Coordinator, at 928-763-9400 ext.8246 or email jjensen@bullheadcityaz.gov.
