MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College offers Adult Education courses to make sure students are set up for success before starting the pathway to earning their degree. MCC’s Adult Education department specializes in helping students earn their High School Equivalency diploma, also known as GED. They also help students get a better grasp in learning the English language through the English Language Acquisition classes.
“MCC’s Adult Education program is all about getting students ready for their future. Students come to us to prepare for a High School Equivalency diploma or to brush up on their English language skills to qualify for better job opportunities and increase earning potential. Plus, it’s great for the well-being of individuals, their families, and the whole community,” said Mitzi Esgro, Director of Adult Education.
High School Equivalency classes help prepare students to take the GED exams, if needed. The classes are free, anyone over the age of 16 who is not currently enrolled in high school can take them, and the classes are offered online and in-person.
For more information about the GED exams, or to schedule or pay for an exam, visit www.ged.com.
The Adult Education Department also has classes for those wanting to learn the English language. The English Language Acquisition courses are free and focus on reading, writing, listening and speaking. Classes are available online and in-person at the Kingman, Lake Havasu and Bullhead Campuses.
Mariam Yesayan, is an English Language Acquisition faculty member and has been teaching English to non-native speakers for 30 years. Many of the students she has taught in the past signed up for the classes to reach certain goals in life.
“Students are learning for job enhancement, to pass their civics tests to become U.S. citizens, or to obtain skills like writing resumes, applying for jobs and preparing for interviews,” she said.
