KINGMAN – Here are some common complaints about diets. Maybe you’ve even said them yourself.
I want to eat like everyone else
I am embarrassed to eat “Diet Food”
Eating healthy is too expensive
Let’s take a minute to address these.

  1. Eating like everyone else – A national survey analyzed what Americans eat regularly. Researchers found that 30% of Americans’ calories come from soda, cake, doughnuts, pastries, beer, wine, hard liquor, sweet rolls, chips, pretzels, and fruit flavored drinks. 30% of their calories come from non-nutritious foods. It also found that only 10% of Americans’ calories come from fruits and vegetables.
    It’s no surprise that in this country 1 out of every 3 people are overweight.
  2. Embarrassment – It’s natural to feel embarrassed when we learn new things.
    Try to find places to eat where you’ll feel more comfortable. Maybe a more private table in your work lunchroom. Find a nearby park with a picnic table that you can relax at on nice days. The more you practice good behaviors, the more natural it will feel.
    Stop worrying about what other people think. Wouldn’t you be embarrassed if people saw you eating high calorie foods that promote weight gain? Feel good about yourself and your efforts to improve your eating habits. Eventually you will get past embarrassment.
  3. Expense – The latest dietary guidelines call for about five servings of fruits and vegetables a day depending on one’s caloric intake. The average American consumes only 3 servings of fruits and vegetables daily. Diet Center encourages fruit and vegetables for a nutritious, balanced diet.
    A study looked at information from 7,195 homes. Researchers found that more than three-quarters of the fruits and vegetables in the study cost less than 50 cents per serving.
    The problem is more with judging portion sizes rather than price. You can get several portions in a pound of fruit or vegetables. The least expensive vegetables were potatoes, cabbage, whole carrots, onions and sweet potatoes. The least expensive fruits were found to be watermelon and apples. This study shows that money can’t be the only reason that people eat unhealthily.
