KINGMAN – Are quick fixes good or bad? It all depends on what we’re talking about. Car and roof repairs we don’t want quick fixes. We want guarantees. We even pay extra for warranties.
What about weight loss? Losing weight takes time, energy, and patience. For success, we must put into practice behaviors that can be maintained for a lifetime. An individual may feel so desperate to lose weight they may be willing to try things that may be drastic or even dangerous, believing that may be their only option. If you feel that you’re at that point, here are some important things to consider:
You will still be the same person you are on the inside with the same emotions and feelings. Unless new behaviors are put into practice you will still deal with them the same way.
We may think that all our problems will be solved. We will still lead the same life and drastic changes, or quick fixes will not change our circumstances.
We may think that people will be nicer to us, and we will have more friends. True friends care about us for who and what we are, not what we look like.
We may be so unhappy with our appearance that our fears about how people view us can be paralyzing. That may not change just with weight loss. Remember that you’re still a great person and can make another person’s life a little nicer.
We may think if I undergo surgery or some other measure for weight loss, I will be able to eat/drink whatever I want and not gain weight because I won’t be able to eat much. That isn’t the case especially when surgery is concerned due to side effects of surgery and how different foods will affect a person. An individual will probably have a very specific diet to follow after surgery with very specific serving sizes.
Drastic measures should only be considered with drastic health problems such as diabetes, neuropathy, sleep apnea, or high blood pressure.
Drastic measures such as surgery aren’t necessarily permanent. After gastric bypass 80% of patients gain their weight back plus more.
If you’re feeling like you’re at the point where you have no other options have a heart-to-heart talk with your doctor. Learn what your options are and learn what side effects you will have to deal with possibly for the rest of your life. Educate yourself beforehand to find out what types of foods and how much you will be eating.
With any decision that needs to be made that will impact the rest of our life we want to make an educated decision.
