BULLHEAD CITY – The expansion of the Bullhead City Senior Campus Building is expected to greatly enhance the quality of life for senior residents by providing more space for social activities, wellness programs, and community engagement. The new facilities will allow for a broader range of programs, from exercise classes and wellness workshops to social clubs and game nights, fostering a stronger sense of community and supporting healthy aging.
The opening of the Senior Campus has been delayed following setbacks in the delivery and installation of an emergency generator that is essential for powering the new 7,700-square foot facility. City officials anticipate that the project will be completed by January. (See related story, page 3)
Despite the delays, progress on other fronts remains steady. The Optimum Community Center is undergoing extensive remodeling, including the expansion of the paved parking lot with an additional 400 stalls to better accommodate community activities. The former Mountain View School campus has been transformed into a multi-use facility featuring a new gymnasium, auditorium, banquet hall, and an indoor/outdoor pickleball complex. Recreation Superintendent Dave Heath emphasized the focus on activities that benefit the entire community, ensuring that all groups using the facilities share a recreational programming partnership.
Another significant development is the transformation of the Bullhead City Animal Resource Center. Precise Builders of Fort Mohave is handling the $3.8 million renovation of the 27,000-square-foot building, which will now house the new Bullhead City Animal Care & Welfare facility. The upgraded shelter will include a veterinary clinic, dog washing stations, a pet crematorium, improved kennels, cat condos, viewing areas, and meet-and-greet rooms. “We’re committed to the wellbeing of our animals and citizens,” said Mayor D’Amico during the ground-breaking ceremony. “The new animal resource center will provide enhanced facilities to care for the needs of our pets.”
As construction progresses, the community remains engaged and supportive, understanding the long-term benefits these improvements will bring. The completion of the Senior Campus expansion, along with other major projects, underscores Bullhead City’s commitment to investing in its residents and ensuring that essential services and amenities continue to meet the evolving needs of the community.
