October 2024

PHOENIX — Attorney General Kris Mayes today announced the latest quarterly allocation of naloxone as part of the state’s ongoing efforts to combat the opioid crisis in Arizona. This initiative is the result of Arizona’s settlement with Teva Manufacturing to address the harms caused to Arizonans by the opioid epidemic.

Importance of Naloxone Distribution

“Every unit of naloxone we distribute can potentially save a life, which underscores the importance of these efforts across our state,” said Attorney General Kris Mayes. “I am committed to ensuring that all Arizona communities have the resources they need to prevent opioid-related overdose deaths.”

Third Quarter Purchase Order Details

The third quarter purchase order, approved by Attorney General Mayes and submitted to Teva earlier this month, involves the distribution of 7,000 units of naloxone, each containing two doses of nasal naloxone, to community partners across Arizona. Deliveries are expected from late September through November of this year.

Distribution Details

The naloxone units will be distributed to the following organizations, totaling 7,000 units for this quarter:

  • AZ HIDTA c/o Arizona Poison Control Center – 2,500 units
  • Sonoran Prevention Works – 800 units
  • Apache County Health Services Department – 500 units
  • Coconino County Health Department – 2,500 units
  • Graham County Substance Abuse Coalition – 700 units

Teva Settlement Agreement

As part of the Teva Settlement Agreement, the State of Arizona opted to receive from Teva Pharmaceuticals 27,700 units of naloxone per year for up to ten years.

To date in 2024, Teva has shipped to Arizona a total of 16,500 units of naloxone.

Information on previous allocations is available here.
