LAKE HAVASU CITY – Twenty-one Mohave Community College Lake Havasu campus students were recently inducted to Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society-Alpha Chi Chi chapter during a ceremony with friends and family.

Phi Theta Kappa’s mission is to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students by providing an opportunity for leadership, service, and development. Students are invited to join Phi Theta Kappa if they have achieved a 3.5 GPA and earned 12 credit hours. “The induction ceremony is to celebrate our students’ commitment to excellence in the pursuit of knowledge and service to the community,” Pamela Galovich, PTK Advisor said. “Our inductees have distinguished themselves as tenacious talented scholars and exemplary members of the MCC community and it’s an honor to advise such hard-working dedicated students.”

Dr. Maria Ayon, Lake Havasu Campus Dean of Student & Community Engagement was the guest speaker at the ceremony. She provided students with words of encouragement. “You have taken advantage of an opportunity at a perfect time. As you continue your educational journey, continue to identify such opportunities. Navigate these opportunities through PTK and what it offers you,” Dr. Ayon said. “Each of you in here is a leader in your own right. You are a role model to someone whether you know it or not. Someone speaks highly of you. Someone is very proud of you. Someone wants to be you. Continue to lead and as you lead remember to take someone with you,” she explained.

New inductees were welcomed into the honor society by Austin Covington, Interim PTK president and Adam Romano, Vice President of Scholarship. New officers, Jasmine Garcia (Treasurer) and Le Ann Flores Gomez (Secretary) were inducted during the ceremony. PTK club co-sponsors are Galovich and Bhaskar Singh. Proposed bill would consolidate control of Mohave County public schools

A controversial bill proposed by two Mohave County legislators would implement a pilot program consolidating control of the county’s public school districts under a single elected official.
House Bill 2717, sponsored by State Reps. John Gillette (R-Kingman) and Leo Biasiucci (R-Lake Havasu City), would transfer many powers held by local school boards to the Mohave County School Superintendent’s office for a 5-year pilot program starting in 2025. The bill would also implement a similar consolidated administration pilot program in neighboring La Paz County.
